SMALL HYDROPOWER
Flowing Without End, Energy Without Limits
W Renewables is driving the adoption and local deployment of small hydropower in Taiwan. As one of the few companies with comprehensive one-stop development capabilities, we are introducing leading international hydro technologies and customizing solutions to each site’s unique terrain and hydrology.
Our Chairman, Rusen Wu, also serves as Executive Director of the Taiwan SHP Industries Alliance, actively promoting policy dialogue and industry growth. By bridging domestic and global expertise, W Renewables redefines small hydro—not merely as an energy source, but as a shared force that empowers the environment, strengthens the grid, and uplifts local communities.
What is Small Hydro?
Small hydro, defined in Taiwan as hydropower facilities with an installed capacity below 20MW, is known as one of the cleanest and most efficient renewable energy sources. In Taiwan’s mountainous regions, fast-flowing rivers use natural elevation differences to drive turbines, generating electricity while returning the water to its course—without consuming a single drop of water—creating a continuous, sustainable energy supply.
Unaffected by weather or time, small hydropower operates continuously, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. For the same installed capacity, it can generate 5 times the output of solar and 3 times that of wind. This makes small hydropower one of the few renewable sources capable of providing baseload power, offering businesses a stable, eco-friendly, and sustainable energy solution.
W Renewables
Full-Scope Small Hydro Solutions
Developing a small hydropower plant is not the work of a single team. From site selection and design to construction and long-term operation, every phase is closely connected and demands specialized expertise.
Our advantage lies in seamlessly integrating every step—delivering a complete solution from planning through operation.
W Renewables’ greatest strength lies in its ability to integrate all stages, delivering a comprehensive, one-stop solution for planning, building, and operating small hydropower projects.

Feasibility & Development Professional Development Assessment
・Our team handles hydraulic design, electromechanical planning, water rights applications, and ecological assessments to ensure feasibility and sustainability. —ensuring each project is feasible and sustainable.

Global Technology Partnerships Adoption
・We work with top hydro equipment suppliers across Europe and Asia—covering both run-of-river and in-duct solutions—tailored to each site’s conditions.
・We collaborate with leading European and Asian hydropower equipment providers, covering both “run-of-river” and “in-channel” applications, customizing solutions to match local terrain and hydrological conditions.

Engineering & Construction Comprehensive Engineering Execution
・From water intakes and pipelines to plant construction and high-voltage installations, we maintain strict control over both schedule and quality.

Operations & Maintenance Reliable Operations & Maintenance
・After commissioning, our O&M team monitors systems and performs on-site inspections to ensure a stable power supply, providing troubleshooting and environmental oversight to keep renewable energy flowing 24/7.
